چکیده

Aims. It is well known that the [O ]λ5007 emission line and hard X-ray (2−10 keV) luminosities are good indicators of AGN activities and that the near and mid-infrared emission of AGN originates from re-radiation of dusty clouds heated by the UV/optical radiation from the accretion disk. In this paper we present a study of the near-infrared K-band (2.2 μm) properties for a sample of 65 Seyfert 2 galaxies. Methods. By using the AGN/Bulge/Disk decomposition technique, we analyzed the 2MASS KS-band images for Seyfert 2 galaxies in order to derive the KS-band magnitudes for the central engine, bulge, and disk components. Results. We find that the KS-band magnitudes of the central AGN component in Seyfert 2 galaxies are tightly correlated with the [O ]λ5007 and the hard X-ray luminosities, which suggests that the AGN K-band emission is also an excellent indicator of the nuclear activities at least for Seyfert 2 galaxies. We also confirm the good relation between the central black hole masses and bulge’s K-band magnitudes for Seyfert 2s.

AGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies

We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...

How Do We See the Nuclear Region ( r < 0 . 1 pc ) of Narrow - Line Seyfert 1 Galaxies ?

We propose two statistical tests to investigate how we see the nuclear region (r < 0.1 pc) of narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s). 1) The high-ionization nuclear emission-line region (HINER) test: Seyfert 1 galaxies (S1s) have systematically higher flux ratios of [Fevii] λ6087 to [O iii] λ5007 than Seyfert 2 galaxies (S2s). This is interpreted in that a significant part of the [Fevii] λ6087 ...

The Starburst-agn Connection: Integral Field Spectroscopy of Merging and Seyfert 2 Galaxies

Infrared bright galactic nuclei may be powered by accretion of matter onto a black hole, a burst of new star formation, or both of these processes. To gain insight into such processes we have used integral field spectroscopy to observe a sample of galaxies with identified AGN or nuclear starbursts. We confirm the presence of a starburst in the nuclear regions of the galaxies IC 3639, MRK 477, N...

Subarcsec Emission in Seyfert Galaxies: the Nuclear Component in the L- and M -bands

We present deep L(3.8 μm) and M (4.7 μm) band imaging with ISAAC on the ESO VLT with unprecedented spatial resolution of the nearby Seyfert 2 galaxies NGC 7496 and NGC 7582 and the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 7213, all at comparable distance. The unresolved nuclear component dominates the emission within the central 90 pc region, while the host galaxy accounts for up to 50 % of the integrated emission...
